The Chesapeake Bay became the entry point for the first group of Africans to enter the colonies as slaves. The Bay and its river were used as the channel for slaver trade and introduction of slavery in the Chesapeake area after a vessel carrying slaves entered Jamestown, Virginia. The slave trade expanded since then and along with it, expanded the slave population.
